Community Garden Open House

The Glace Bay community came together on Monday, August 18, to celebrate the grand opening of a newly renovated garden space at 2 Hector Street. The open house, held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., featured prize draws, seed giveaways, refreshments, and painting activities for all ages.

Over the past spring and summer, volunteers and staff transformed the garden, adding new raised beds, trellises, and a large greenhouse designed to extend the growing season. The improvements will help supply the local Food Bank with fresh produce and herbs, while also offering a welcoming space for community members to learn more about gardening and growing their own food.

Organizers said the open house was a chance to showcase the hard work that went into the project and to welcome the public into the revitalized green space. “We’ve been busy bees this year, and we’re so excited to finally share the results with the community,” the group noted.

Residents who attended had the opportunity to explore the garden and enjoy the day’s activities in the newly revitalized green space.
