New Burger at Collette's Scores Big for Minor Hockey

GLACE BAY — Collettes Restaurant has officially launched a mouthwatering new addition to its menu: the “Glace Bay Classic” burger. Starting this week, every time you order this locally inspired burger, $2 from the sale will be donated to Glace Bay Minor Hockey, helping to support youth programs across the region.
A Burger with a Cause
The Glace Bay Classic comes piled high with locally sourced Angus beef, smoked cheddar from nearby Cape Breton Creamery, crisp lettuce, vine-ripened tomato slices, and a special house-made garlic-dill aioli—all served on a toasted brioche bun. Priced at $14.99, each burger includes an automatic $2 contribution toward minor hockey initiatives, from new equipment to ice-time subsidies for families in need.
“Our community is what makes Collettes special,” said owner and head chef, Allison O’Brien. “We wanted to give our customers a delicious reason to come in—and to also give back to the kids who love getting onto the ice. Hockey has always been a big part of life here in Glace Bay, and we’re proud to play a part in helping young players reach their goals.”
Supporting the Next Generation of Players
Glace Bay Minor Hockey Association President, Karen MacDonald, expressed gratitude for the partnership. “We rely on local businesses and supporters to keep our programs running smoothly,” MacDonald explained. “With rising costs for equipment, rink time, and travel, the extra funds from Collettes will make a real difference for families. It’s partnerships like this that help ensure our kids have every opportunity to lace up their skates.”
Since its opening day on Monday, the Glace Bay Classic has been selling quickly. “By Thursday afternoon, we had already committed $500 to the hockey association,” O’Brien noted. “We’re thrilled to see how enthusiastic our neighbors have been.”
How to Get Involved
Collettes is located at 121 Main Street, Glace Bay, and will serve the Glace Bay Classic burger Monday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., until further notice. In addition to in-restaurant orders, the burger is available for takeout and delivery; diners can mention “Minor Hockey Fundraiser” when ordering to ensure the $2 donation is applied.
The restaurant also plans to host a special “Hockey Night” on Friday, July 11, where select ticket sales and a silent auction—featuring signed jerseys and skate gear—will further benefit Glace Bay Minor Hockey. More details on the event schedule will be posted on Collettes’ Facebook page and in upcoming editions of The Coastal Courier.
For families and burger lovers alike, Collettes’ Glace Bay Classic offers a tasty way to play a part in the local hockey community—one bite at a time.
